The city of Kharkov (Ukraine) witnessed three major battles during World War II, the first in 1941 (when it was first captured by the Wehrmacht), the second in 1942 when the Germans repulsed a Soviet counter-offensive, in 1943 the city changed hands twice more…until it was finally completely liberated by the Red Army.
