The KhT-26 was a flamethrower tank project developed by the Soviets during World War II. The KhT-26 was based on the T-26 chassis and about 500 units of this tank were produced.
During the early phases of the conflict almost all belligerent countries developed some type of flamethrower tank, these vehicles had a range too short to be effective on an open battlefield but were devastating in confined spaces or against fortified positions. However, as anti-tank weapons became more effective, this tank variant gradually became obsolete.
