Description

The Swordfish was a reconnaissance/torpedo plane belonging to the British Royal Navy, it was a biplane, manufactured following a metal structure, covered with fabric and with a fixed landing gear. It was introduced in 1934 but by the advent of World War II it was already an outdated aircraft, with characteristics that were outdated and more typical of the previous war. Even so, its very robust construction, its excellent maneuverability and its ability to carry heavy armament meant that the Swordfish was present in the famous attack on the battleship Bismarck in May 1941 and was not delegated to anti-submarine duties until early 1942.

The Swordfish MkII started its activity in 1943, it assembled a 694hp Bristol Pegasus radial engine that allowed it to reach maximum flight speeds of 240km/h. and its bottom wing was made of metal, which allowed it to to mount 27kg RP-3 rocketsSwordfish could in turn be armed with 2 7.7mm Vickers machine gunsone on the nose and one on the back.

The MkII was mainly used for protection and escort of convoys in their crossing of the Atlantic.
