At the end of World War II, the U.S. high command gathered much information about the advances in aeronautics that had been made in the Third Reich. One of those advances was the aerodynamic improvement that Dr. Alexander Lippish was developing: Delta wings. The Douglas F4D-1 Skyray was the ワnico US Navy interceptor fighter with Delta-type wings. The first operational F4D-1 was ready in April 1956 and although this aircraft never entered combat, it did have the honor of achieving several world speed records and of being the first US fighter to reach Mach 1. The Douglas F4D-1 was active from 1956-1964 and 422 units were built.
