The Panzer Lehr Division was an elite unit of the German army, consisting mainly of veteran armored school instructors. Deployed in Normandy in 1944, it took an active part in the defense against the Allied invasion. Equipped with modern tanks and armored vehicles, it suffered heavy losses during the intense fighting in the region, especially in Operation Cobra. Its resistance was fierce, but it was unable to stop the Allied advance into France.
