USS Cushing (DD-797) was an American destroyer of the Fletcher class that was built (1944) by the US Navy during World War II. Being a ship built in the last years of the conflict, the Cushing incorporated improvements that were a consequence of the lessons learned throughout the war, among others: an increase in its anti-aircraft defenses and a square wheelhouse that gave it more visibility.
The Cushing took part in famous battles such as the attack on Taiwan or the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and was also present in Tokyo Bay as escort ship of the USS Missouri, where the Japanese surrender was signed in 1945.
