Byzantine Clibanaries (SET 1) 1/72 Red Box-RB72151

The Byzantine clibanarians were an elite heavy cavalry of the Byzantine Empire, inspired by the cataphracts of Late Antiquity. Their name derives from the Greek klibanos, meaning “furnace”, alluding to the heat generated by their full metal armor. These warriors and their horses were fully protected by chain mail or lamellar armor. Armed with long spears, swords and occasionally composite bows, the Clibanarians combined shock power with ranged attack capabilities. Used in decisive combat, they were instrumental in battles against enemies such as the Sassanid Persians, Arabs and Bulgars, reflecting Byzantine military sophistication.
