Romanian fighter IAR 80 initial. 1941. 1/72

19.90

The IAR 80 was a monoplane fighter developed by Romania in the years before World War II. Designed and manufactured by the Industria Aeronautică Română (IAR) company, its first flight took place in 1939. Equipped with a locally manufactured IAR K14 radial engine, the aircraft stood out for its robustness and maneuverability. The IAR 80 was used mainly by the Royal Romanian Air Force and entered service in early 1941. Although in its early years it was comparable in performance to contemporary fighters such as the Hawker Hurricane or the Messerschmitt Bf 109, it soon became outdated as the war progressed and more advanced aircraft appeared. Despite its limitations, the IAR 80 participated in several campaigns, including the defense of the Ploiești oil fields and the Eastern Front alongside the Luftwaffe. Later, its design was improved in the IAR 81 model, which incorporated greater armament and bomb-carrying capability.
