The Reggiane Re.2002 Ariete was a ground attack and fighter-bomber aircraft developed by Italy during World War II. Designed as an evolution of the Re.2000, it combined a streamlined airframe with a Piaggio P.XIX radial engine, reaching a top speed of 530 km/h. Armed with two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns and up to 650 kg of bombs, it was ideal for close support and tactical bombing missions. Introduced in 1942, the Re.2002 served in the Regia Aeronautica in campaigns such as Sicily and Corsica, excelling in maneuverability and endurance. After the Italian armistice in 1943, many aircraft were captured by the Germans and employed by the Luftwaffe in similar tasks. Although its production was limited due to limited resources, the Re.2002 is remembered as one of the best Italian designs of the era, showing versatility and effectiveness in a multifunctional role on the battle front.
