The Polikarpov I-15 was a biplane fighter developed from earlier designs by N.N. Polikarpov. Its first flight occurred in October 1934, equipped with a Wright “Cyclone” engine. It stood out for its gull-shaped upper wing and its great maneuverability, being the best fighter in this characteristic.
During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), the I-15, nicknamed “Chato”, was the main fighter of the Republican Aviation, fighting successfully against the He 51 and FIAT CR-32 of the Nationalist side.
