Description

Horses were introduced to ancient Japan in the late 5th century, arriving from the mainland. They were highly valued animals and reserved for nobles (bushi).

Mounted Samurai received specific training for mounted combat, whether with sword, spear or bow. The horse, for its part, was also trained in the art of war in such a way that its behavior and movement would be perfectly synchronized with its rider.
