Description

The T-80 is a battle tank built in the Soviet Union in the mid-1960s, although it was not in service until the mid-1970s, and is now part of the Russian military arsenal. Some of these tanks are being used by Russian and Ukrainian armored forces in the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The T-80 is the first tank in history to be powered by gas turbines. It is important to note that the T-80 is a contemporary of the T-72, while the latter was designed to be mass-produced and is simpler and cheaper to manufacture, the T-80 was intended to become a more expensive tank, invulnerable to anti-tank weapons developed by NATO (its natural enemy during the Cold War).
