The Panzer 38(t) Ausf D is a variant of the light tank of Czechoslovakian origin LT vz. 38, which was adopted and modified by the German Wehrmacht during World War II. After the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939, the Panzer 38(t) was integrated into the German forces due to its excellent design and reliability.
Introduced in 1940, the Ausf D featured improved armor and suspension to increase its combat durability. Equipped with a 37 mm KwK 38(t) L/47.8 cannon and a 7.92 mm MG 37(t) coaxial machine gun, the Panzer 38(t) Ausf D was effectively capable of engaging light armored vehicles and providing infantry support.
Its 6-cylinder, 125 horsepower EPA Prague engine allowed it to reach speeds of up to 42 km/h with an operating range of approximately 200 km. The Panzer 38(t) Ausf D was used on several fronts, including the invasion of France and Operation Barbarossa, proving to be a reliable and versatile tank. Although it was eventually outclassed by heavier tanks, its design served as the basis for future German armored vehicles.
