The M13/40 command tank was a variant of the Italian M13/40 medium tank, used during World War II. Designed specifically for command and control functions, this version was equipped with additional radio equipment and a modified internal configuration to accommodate the commander and his staff.
The standard M13/40, the basis of this variant, had a 47 mm gun and three 8 mm Breda machine guns. It had a 30 mm front armor and was powered by a 125 hp Fiat SPA diesel engine, reaching a top speed of 32 km/h (20 mph). The operating range was approximately 200 km.
The M13/40 command carriage retained these characteristics but differed in its improved communication and battlefield coordination capabilities. Used primarily in the North African theater of operations, it enabled Italian commanders to direct their forces more effectively in combat.
