The Russian main battle tank T-90 was developed in 1989 by the Design Bureau of the “Uralvagonzavod” enterprise in Nizhny Tagil, Russia, as a modification of the T-72 tank (T-72BU). In 1993 it was added to the arsenal with the index T-90. This tank is armed with a high-precision 125 mm 2A46M smooth-bore gun, capable of firing different types of shells, as well as laser-guided missiles. Thanks to its automatic loader, it achieves a rate of 7-8 rounds per minute, outperforming most non-Russian tanks. The T-90 can engage ground targets and low-flying aircraft, including helicopters. Its 1A45T “Irtish” targeting system allows it to destroy modern enemy tanks before they can fire effectively. Auxiliary armament includes a 7.62 mm PKTM coaxial machine gun and a 12.7 mm 6P49 “Kord” anti-aircraft machine gun in the turret. Protection is provided by explosive reactive armor and the “Shtora-1” optical and electronic countermeasures system.
