The 5 cm PaK 38 anti-tank gun (5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 38) was developed by Germany in the late 1930s and entered service in 1940.
Designed by Rheinmetall, this gun was a response to the need for a more powerful weapon capable of dealing with the better armored tanks that were appearing on European battlefields.
The PaK 38 had a caliber of 50 mm and a barrel length of 60 calibers, which allowed it to fire armor-piercing projectiles with an exit velocity of up to 835 m/s.
It was capable of penetrating up to 81 mm of armor at 500 meters, making it effective against most Allied tanks of the time.
This gun was relatively light, weighing around 830 kg, which allowed it to be easily transported by vehicles or even by hand by the gunnery team.
Its design included a protective shield for the gunners and a two-wheeled shaft that facilitated its mobility.
The PaK 38 was used extensively on all fronts where German forces fought.
Although it was eventually replaced by more powerful models, such as the 7.5 cm PaK 40.
