The 88 mm Pak 43 was a German anti-tank gun designed by the Krupp company with the intention of building a heavy piece capable of piercing the armor of most of the Allied medium and heavy tanks. This was the gun later mounted on heavy tank destroyers such as the Elefant or Jagdtiger.
The Pak 43/41 version was known by soldiers by the nickname “Scheuntor” (barn door in English), so called because it was so heavy and unwieldy.
