In the mid-1930s, Germany initiated an ambitious project to mechanize its armed forces. The aim was to provide the Wehrmacht with a standard military chassis that would optimize the off-road mobility of the troops. Among the different versions proposed, the medium-sized four-wheel drive vehicle, produced by Opelwerke and Auto Union, was widely distributed. This chassis was configured in several versions to fulfill different functions, such as troop transport, artillery towing, reconnaissance and, especially, for the needs of transmission equipment. The model Kfz. 12manufactured by Horch (part of the Auto Union group, together with Wanderer, Audi and DKW), stood out for its simple but effective design, proving to be highly reliable and rugged in a wide variety of operating environments. This robustness made it a key tool for the German forces during World War II.
