The Douglas A-20 was a twin-engine aircraft designed by the U.S. aircraft company to fulfill two main operational roles. Its fuselage, with a mid/high wing position, allowed it to be configured as a night fighter and attack aircraft, with a nose-mounted weapons system, or as a light bomber. The light bomber version was a great success not only with the USAAF, but also with the British RAF, who named it “Boston”. Its glazed nose housed the gunner, while its tricycle landing gear, innovative for the time, offered greater stability. Capable of carrying up to 1,800 kg of offensive cargo, the Boston was produced in large numbers. It was used extensively by the RAF, Commonwealth air forces and some units of the Soviet Union. Its versatility and reliability made it one of the most important tactical aircraft of World War II.
