The Su-2 was a Soviet light bomber that played a significant role in World War II. Designed by Pavel Sukhoi, this twin-engine multipurpose aircraft entered service in 1940. Although not a heavy bomber, the Su-2 was noted for its versatility, being used in a variety of roles, such as light bomber, reconnaissance aircraft and troop transport.
It was used by the Red Army especially in the first months of the war, it was quite vulnerable to attack by enemy fighters, however, its low weight, gave it the ability to operate from unprepared airstrips, which gave it a certain strategic advantage.
