The Soviet BM-13-16 truck , popularly known as the“Katiusha“, was a multiple rocket launcher used during World War II. Mounted on trucks like the ZIS-6, this artillery system became a symbol of Soviet military power. The “Katiusha” fired 132 mm M-13 rockets, capable of saturating large areas with massive fire in a short time, causing devastating psychological and physical effects on the enemy.
Although it lacked the accuracy of conventional artillery, its ability to launch multiple rockets at once compensated for this deficiency.
The BM-13-16 entered service in 1941 and was used in several key battles on the Eastern Front.
Its mobility, ease of production and battlefield impact made it a crucial weapon for the Red Army.
The nickname “Katiusha” comes from a popular Russian song of the time, and was used affectionately to refer to this artillery system.
Its legacy continues to be remembered as one of the Soviet Union’s most iconic military advances.
