The Fiat CR.32, designed in the early 1930s by engineer Rosatelli, was one of the most famous biplanes in the history of aviation. Equipped with a 600 hp V12 engine, it reached 375 km/h and stood out for its maneuverability, robustness and powerful armament, with two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns.
It had its baptism of fire with the Legionary Aviation in the Spanish Civil War, where it demonstrated its superiority over Soviet fighters such as the Polikarpov I-16. Even the fast Tupolev SB-2 bomber suffered important losses against the CR.32, known as “Chirri” by the Spanish pilots.
