The Bf 109 E-3 is undoubtedly the most famous German fighter aircraft of World War II and can probably be considered as one of the key aircraft in the revolution that took place in the 1930s around military aviation.
Willi Messerschmitt designed his BF109 to have as little surface area as possible, to reduce weight and improve aerodynamics, along with the most powerful engine available at the time, the 1,175 hp Daimler-Benz DB601A (for the E Series, which is the one represented in this Tamiya model). Other modifications had to do with the finish of the fuselage or with the possibility of retractable landing gear.
The BF109 E, “Emil” series, was the most extensively produced of this fighter. The E-1 version was sent with the Legion Condor to fight in Spain during the Spanish Civil War and the E-3 and E-4 models were used at the beginning of the war, during the Blitzkrieg and the Battle of Britain.
