The Bismarck was together with the Tirpitz the two battleships of the Bismack class that Germany built in the second half of the 1930s.
Bismarck had a rather short operational life of only 8 months. She was tasked, together with the cruiser Prinz Eugen, to cut the supply lines between the United States and the United Kingdom, in what was called Operation Rheinübung. Within that mission was the Battle of the Denmark Strait, when England sent a group of ships to intercept Bismarck. In the end this battle resulted in the sinking damage to HMS Prince of Wales and the sinking of HMS Hood.
This battle was followed by the famous chase of the battleship Bismarck, which finally ended with her sinking on May 27, 1941 in the North Sea at the hands of the so-called British H-Force.
