Description

The Su-85, a World War II self-propelled artillery and medium-weight tank destroyer system, was noted for its combat effectiveness. Used in large numbers from September 1943 until the end of the conflict, these armored vehicles were manufactured at the Ural (Uralmash) heavy machinery production facility between August 1943 and July 1944, with a total of 2,337 units produced. Armed with the 85 mm D-5S gun, the Su-85 had the capability to destroy medium tanks at ranges of over one kilometer, and could penetrate the armor plates of heavy tanks at closer ranges.
