Description

The aircraft carrier Enterprise, which was known as “Big E” by the U.S. Navy was completed in 1938, was a mid-size, Yorktown-class aircraft carrier that could carry about 20,000 tons.

The Enterprise participated in 18 of the 22 major battles that took place during the Pacific War (WWII) and was nearly sunk on 15 occasions. His ability to bounce back and survive made him a symbol of the fighting spirit of the US Navy and earned him 20 battle stars.

The Enterprise was active throughout the war and was the only one of its class to survive the war.
